Sausage Cheese Balls Lite
1 lb. hot or sweet turkey or chicken sausage (the original calls for Italian beef sausage) 16 ounces low-fat shredded sharp cheddar cheese (instead of full-fat cheddar) 3 cups Heart Smart Bisquick (lower in fat and sodium than the regular version) 3/4 cup water or skim milk
- Remove sausage from casings and brown in a pan, breaking into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any fat off and let it cool.
- Mix the remaining ingredients together, then add the cooled sausage.
- Roll into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on a baking sheet sprayed with Pam or other cooking spray.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, until they turn golden brown and you can see the cheese bubbling. These are a great party appetizer or holiday breakfast treat.
