Sausage Cheese Balls Lite

1 lb. hot or sweet turkey or chicken sausage (the original calls for Italian beef sausage) 16 ounces low-fat shredded sharp cheddar cheese (instead of full-fat cheddar) 3 cups Heart Smart Bisquick (lower in fat and sodium than the regular version) 3/4 cup water or skim milk

Directions:

  1. Remove sausage from casings and brown in a pan, breaking into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any fat off and let it cool.
  2. Mix the remaining ingredients together, then add the cooled sausage.
  3. Roll into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on a baking sheet sprayed with Pam or other cooking spray.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, until they turn golden brown and you can see the cheese bubbling. These are a great party appetizer or holiday breakfast treat.
